It's important for all of us, particularly children, to eat these foods in moderation. And if you keep them as occasional 'treats', they become more enjoyable!
Instead of sweets and 'junk food' between meals, why not try fruit, raw vegetables, sandwiches or unsalted nuts? If you find you are eating snacks more out of habit than actual hunger, sugar-free gum makes an ideal replacement, as it helps you to produce more saliva which neutralises plaque acid.
It is important that you use a good quality toothbrush which is replaced regularly. Toothbrushes with worn bristles don't remove plaque as effectively.
Brush your teeth thoroughly at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, ensuring that all surfaces of your teeth and your gums along the gumline are brushed. We also recommend regular flossing.
